SSS Maternity Benefit: A Helpful Guide for Expecting Mothers

Congratulations on your pregnancy! As you prepare for the arrival of your little one, it’s important to know about the benefits that are available to you as an SSS member.

The Social Security System (SSS) maternity benefit is indeed a valuable support for expecting mothers in the Philippines. One of these benefits is the SSS Maternity Benefit, which can help you financially during your pregnancy and after your baby is born.

What is SSS Maternity Benefit?

This is a cash allowance given to qualified female members who are pregnant, have had a miscarriage, or have undergone an emergency termination of pregnancy (ETP).

  • The amount of the maternity benefit is 1/12 of the member’s average monthly salary credit (MSC) for the 12 months immediately preceding the semester of childbirth, miscarriage, or ETP.
  • The maximum amount of the maternity benefit is PHP70,000.
  • If you are employed, your employer will advance the full amount of the maternity benefit to you within 30 days from the date of filing your maternity leave application.

Basics of SSS Maternity Benefit

  1. Eligibility
    • The pregnant woman must be an active SSS member, which means she should have made at least three months’ worth of contributions within the 12-month period immediately preceding the semester of her childbirth or miscarriage.
    • You have made at least three monthly contributions within the 12-month period before your semester of contingency.
    • You must have given the required notification to your employer and SSS.
    • Submit SSS Maternity Notification.

    • Birth certificate (if applicable)
    • Proof of marriage (if applicable)
    • Valid ID

  3. Coverage
    • The SSS maternity benefit covers female SSS members who are pregnant, have recently given birth, suffered a miscarriage, or had an emergency termination of pregnancy.
  4. Benefit Amount
    • The amount of the maternity benefit is based on the member’s average daily salary credit (ADSC) and the number of maternity leave days granted. Currently, the benefit is calculated at 100% of the member’s ADSC for 105 days.
